And then Khir Toyo recent comment on his famous blog:
"Janganlah terlalu dipentingkan keuntungan beratus juta syarikat berkaitan kerajaan (Government Link Company - GLC) sehingga rakyat di bawah menderita. Apa penting diumumkan keuntungan besar syarikat ini tetapi rakyat tidak merasai apa-apa?" katanya.
Selain itu Khir juga menyarankan Petronas dan semua GLC negara mengumumkan keuntungan kepada kabinet sebelum kabinet memutuskan jumlah bonus yang perlu di berikan kepada mereka.
In the wake of the RM0.78 petrol increase, everyone now talks about the infamous role that PETRONAS plays in managing the price increase and the effort to solemnly share the burden of the rest of the population. I fret everytime I read a post about PETRONAS. How dare they talk like they own us (or probably the do. Gosh, what a realisation).
Malaysian are very oblivious about the world scenario. They are comparing PETRONAS to other governmental body which does not come close to generating even some minor revenue of the country, and they expect that we (PETRONAS staff hereafter) would want to share our well-deserved hard-earned value of bonus with the rest of the government bodies.
Look at this. It is bad enough that we do not get the market pay that we deserve, now we are being denied our only solace.
They (the community in large hereafter) often talk about globalisation and moving PETRONAS towards Global Championship, but how could we when we are being treated like a second class workers in a first class cash generating world? How do we compete with the likes of Shell, Exxonmobil, Total or even NOCs like Petrobras and CNPC when we are getting ridiculously un-competitive pay and benefit?
I’ve heard talks from unhappy friends who were seriously considering joining their other peers in Middle East, as they were not happy with the recent rumours of a 2-month bonus. (As the writer now listen to background noise of “Oi bersyukurlah”, “Ek ele.. 2 bulan pun nak komplen”, “Macam2 aa orang PETRONAS ni”).
We deserve so much more boys & girls. Please do not compare us conglomerate with your own (unless it is another Oil & Gas company), as we are pretty much aware of our net worth. I am still proud to be serving the nation, but with all this money tension all around, I may just drop my national pride and walk away.

i'm the usual anon commentor. and i'm happy to hear you've surfaced your grouses on this subject.
i've had the pleasure of informally debating this with some important figures of the opposition & government. point was, i wanted to know how much screwed up these people could or would be on the matter of petronas in a whole.
the opposition clearly wanted petronas' accounts to be publicly published in the dailies for the annual return and income. their point is, so that they know how petronas go about their business, annual profit/loss & income parity among others.
i doubt this :)
the toyol (khir toyo) meanwhile, would like to have himself portrayed as the people's leader. we know who he is and i think he should shut his trap on this.
i defended against the brunt attack from my opposition friends on how important and strategic petronas is as a national corporation as well as malay's last economic bastion.
i made it known to him that petronas people (the normalites, not the GMs) are having to deal with the stark disparity in terms of wages, remunerations & bonuses with others competing and high achieving oil and gas NOCs & corps.
*petronas people = petronas normalites
petronas is solely blamed for the price hike. petronas should defend themselves and be firm on this.
i think the problem is, petronas has been a staunch contributor the country's wealth for years on end now. and the spectrum of the wealth was never there for us to see.
this is the problem. our recent government has been swindling petronas' money/tax money for years on end too. when you're short of cash, you look for petronas.
opposition alike, everyone wants a piece of the action (read: cold hard cash). camouflaging under the hoodwinks of 'transparency', they have the dream of 'managing' petronas profit. surprisingly, the opposition has never in their capacity would like to talk about the losses absorbed by petronas, only profit.
like you have mentioned, no one cared really about how despicable petronas' normalites like yourself are earning 'meagre' monthly allowances. yes, your wages is considered as allowances in other like-flourished O&G corporations and companies. no one cared how much motivation petronas' normalites had to gather up day in day out just to let the day pass them by.
no one cared about how much some petronas normalites worked their butts' off just to make sure that the company, at least on their mode of responsibility is running smoothly.
i extended the strategic importance how petronas must be kept as malays last economic bastion. i believe in its existence, petronas can be perceived as a 'very rich bank for everyone in power to loot from'.
we know how desperate we are as malays to have our last malay entity in petronas. nevertheless, competition is not to be taken lightly.
i was labeled as a malay ultra, malay racist and malay supremacist when i told my fellow detractors that government and malays should defend petronas as an independent corporation to be managed and scrutinised only by the malays.
their reply is 'how dare i claim petronas belongs to the malays and not the ruling government'.
i say, petronas ultimately belongs to the malays. this is simply because our economic shares are not anymore equal and just. we have only petronas to be proud of and be associated with in high regards.
i told my detractors that i want petronas to be seen & ackowledged as a more than capable malay conglomerate and professionals. and i'm quite sure petronas' normalites carry those virtues in them as well.
there's a reason why petronas is only answerable to only one person in this country - the prime minister. it is to minimize the 'external disturbances' from political foes and backbenchers.
but no, our prime minister ransacked petronas' coffers so much that is has become much publicised.
petronas belongs to the malays, not the elites or the power that be.
to have petronas' accounts be published in the open in my opinion is for certain quarters' desire to see how 'rich' the malays are. when they know for a fact that it does not belong to anyone else but the malays in-large.
a certain detractor told me that we should keep petronas afloat in the stock market to boost growth and profits. i told him this is not possible since that is a clear exposure to hostile takeover and would leave petronas depending on the uncertainties in the composite index. although it may be good to have us, the normal people to have a share or two, this can be corrected and balanced by proportionate bonus & wages scheme back to the workforce.
i told my detractors, it is high time for petronas to pay their workforce accordingly. reports tracing to the spe annual income report clearly spell out the appalling income disparity in south easia asia v the rest of the world. work on this, and i can assure you petronas will have more than they would ever think of.
i heard through the grapevines that petronas' policy on 'defectors' who have left petronas and re-joining is highly ocnsidered. that's about time and proper. i hope the motion is carried through without much ponder.
what i'm trying to let you know missy writer is that, do not ever once thought that the malays, the normal malays do not appreciate what the petronas' normalites and petronas as a whole have done for the country and her people.
do not let this political cheapskates pull your weary spirit away from you. you know clearly, all they want at the end of every day, is your money.
so work harder and smarter for the right reason and cause.
i'll defend petronas' causes anytime anyday. because that the only 'bank' that is permitted by law to be looted by irresponsible politicians. i will never agree to the notion that petronas should be answerable to the parliament simply because i will never believe any politicians.
but this does not mean i agree petronas is only answerable to the prime minister, especially abdullah badawi. he's a straight up idiot.
when we have found the man befitted to be our prime minister, we shall entrust it to him to help propagate petronas' wealth to her workforce and the country. we then have to devise a method of accountabilities and measures for any adverse effects so to protect the corporation's interests.
make no mistake, petronas is a capitalist. but a much noble capitalist than most. i want petronas to be run as professional possible and be as profitable for as long she can afford.
no one can take away the fact that petronas was built and developed by the malays, and just because we have issues with mr. idiot (abdullah badawi) or mr idiot and his gang is looting petronas' coffers, doesn't mean we HAVE TO share malays last economic bastion with others.

Thank you for the elaborate comment you have put up. At least I know that someone is out there to defend PETRONAS very existing, and its loyally dedicated staff who has worked hard to ensure that the Malaysian reserves falls rightly to its people.
However amidst all that, when the people are still making false accusation on how PETRONAS should be giving back to the nation when the nation are the one who has given PETRONAS the wealth it enjoy today. I have to rightfully agree that perhaps 50% of PETRONAS’s production are offshore domestic in Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak.
But what will happen 15-20 years from now when reserves have depleted. What if the production that the company will then enjoy would be coming from our International venture? How would the nation justify this?
Would PETRONAS still be known as the country’s treasure when it is the staff who has wholly dedicated their effort to expand out and ensure that we ‘rip’ off other country’s wealth and treasure?
So here is the hurtful truth. It is true that PETRONAS belongs to the nation, but have some respect to those who has groom PETRONAS to where it is now. It is the staffs who have managed to build PETRONAS, and the revenue that you see now largely belongs to the hardwork and dedication of those who has work late hours just to ensure that we capture those other 50% foreign investment.
So, is it wrong for us to deserve some well earned reward and recognition?

Rumors said 1 of the SM for MLNG already left for Qatar.
The reason petronas staff stay "loyal" to Petronas is because the pride of serving the nation...plus some bonus to compensate the occupational hazards (mercury, explosion bla bla..) which being encountered on daily basis.
Kalau ler KJ nantu Pak Lah pon sibuk nk masuk campor dlm urusan Petronas, kompem tinggal yang scholar petronas jer kerja kat situ... tu pon sbb terikat ...dan pas 10 years kita cabut!!! ekekeke

don't give up just yet on the 0.5 month bonus. you might even end up with 0% bonus to having compensate the thirst of 'people power'.

And suddenly KJ wanted to join the club. Transparency...PETRONAS should announce their account to public.
Strangely when this comes from KJ when every year, PETRONAS submit 10 copies of its account to the Parliment and it is just up to them to search for the record in the Parliment's library, free of hassle. I guess these people just wanted headline coverage, and never do realises their own stupidity assuming things that they should already know.
And actually, there are more than just 2 idiots roaming the government.

i've given my say on the subject in this guy's blog along with other petronas staff who are offended with this issue and this guy's remark about petronas.
on kj, i believe he has a grudge against petronas or tan sri about some contracts that petronas didn't award to scomi in 2006. he made a remark during umno ge 2006 slamming glc's ceos for not awarding contract to umno ppl. i did blog about it back then.

Being the patriot we are, I was thinking about establishing a PETRONAS blog in trying to educate the masses about the company. We can put our comments, write up about anything that has got to do with the company in our effort in trying to educate the masses on the role that PETRONAS plays in strengthening the economy.
I am not sure if this is wise, but at least it is a step up from just individually blogging about it and not getting people’s attention. What do you guys think?
